Truckee and Donner Lake
Both the Town of Truckee and Donner Lake sit just east of Donner Summit in the Sierra Nevada. Donner Lake is a beautiful freshwater lake full of history from the wagon trains attempting to cross the snow covered mountains during early winter. Campgrounds are at the east end of the lake at Donner State Park. Quaint cabins surround the lake and have good access to both the lake and hiking trails. The Pacific Crest Trail is just off Old Highway 40, above Donner Lake.
The Town of Truckee is steaming with history also with railroad tracks running through the Old Town of Truckee and often referred to as The Gateway to the Sierras. The Truckee River flows along the southern edge of town and offers a hiking trail along it's banks. Neighborhoods in the Truckee area include Tahoe Donner, Donner Lake, Prosser Lakeview, Martis Camp, Martis Valley, Lahontan, Glenshire, Olympic Heights, and Northstar. Northstar Ski Resort sits on Highway 267 and offers in, ski out residences.
