Peaceful, beautiful, less-traveled section of the Sierra Nevada. The fishing is good in this little valley and wildlife is abundant. Tracks left in either the snow or along lake and river banks during summer months tell the story. Eagles soar in the valley and can be seen often. This gateway was used by the miners during the gold rush era and Snowshoe Thompson used Hope Valley as his route from Genoa, Nevada to deliver mail to Placerville and Sacramento.
There are several large ranches hidden among acres of meadows and trees as well as river side cabins. Markleeville Hot Springs is popular for apres skiing at Kirkwood Mountain Resort or cross country ski adventures into back country lakes. The neighborhoods in this area are Markleeville, Woodfords, Hope Valley, and Kirkwood.
